Gettin' down on Friday

By now, you're all familiar with the abortion of tween-tainment, Rebecca Black's "Friday" (<== no way am I linking to that). In all of its autotuned, musical oblivion and lyrical inanity, it could be the worst thing published in the musical catalog over the past decade.

But, it does lend itself to a particular dark humor.

Enter Matt Mulholland, with his own brilliant, but depressive take on "Friday" (and Fridays, in general). A buddy of mine, a lawyer in Alabama, sent me this on Twitter. And, felt it necessary to share because A) it's funny, and B) this is exactly how I spent my Friday: Verge of angry tears, head in my hands, trying to get drunk enough to make it all go away....

...it didn't work.

The upside is, I did laugh sardonically for an hour as I kept this one repeating on my iPhone. Perhaps you will get a lil' enjoyment or catharsis out of it?

H/T to Espyonaj.

Going on Hiatus

As y'all know, February has been really sporadic. Dealing with surgeries, preparing to take over one of the attorney's work loads while he's on vacation, getting swamped with my own work...and the simple matter of a wedding.

 Like this, only without wings...

March 13, 2011. At the City of Refuge, before the sight of one of the most bloodthirsty gods on the Island (KU, war), the long-suffering Fetching Frau Schatten and I will be ending our years of living in sin, and joining the millions of other Americans raking in the tax benefits, shared student loan consolidation, and first-time homebuyer credits.

Really, one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

Last night, the first of dozens of people started arriving. The Meathead flies in on Friday. And, simply put, I'm going to be too slammed over the next two weeks to really keep up here.

I plan on doing a few posts...and I have a follow-up that I really want to get to later today, but posting will be akin to a man actually getting picked up at a bar by a hot chick: Sporadic, pleasantly-surprising, and drunken.

In the meanwhile, please check out Fellow Traveler Siouxsie Law. She's got your fashion tips, outrageous lawsuits, and much more --all from a darker perspective.

When we meet again, on a more semi-regular basis, I'll be a changed man. Until that day, however, let's take it out with some boobies?

Kellie Gardener (Vintage Kellie G)...
Absolutely makes my heart skip a beat.

BTW: This picture is (c) Kellie G.
Please go pay her a visit at

You'll be a better person for it, and her ad revenue will thank you.

Thursday took a sanity day...

Personal day today. Been overwhelmed since about December. Going to clear real world things off my plate today, but I'll touch base in a bit with the most ironic thing I've seen in a damned, long time.

For some reason (completely unknown to me), I'm really digging on the Five Finger Death Punch these days. Perhaps because it's what you rarely see anymore: earnest, semi-tolerable, rock and roll.

Doesn't exist much anymore, so when we find it, we should be thankful. The alternative is a world of Gaga and Bieber.

Happy Wednesday...

...yes, I know it's not Wednesday, but this week has been so shitty, I want it gone already. Banished, I say!

I love this one.
Probably b/c of the sweet car, and the fact that she reminds me some of the Fetching Frau Schatten.

Tuesday's got some work today...

So, sing along, shall we, and watch our pitiful fucking economy collapse around us. We were the first fiscal casualties...I don't believe that we will be the last.

So good, it deserve the lyrics
Yeh, this one's for the workers who toil night and day
By hand and by brain to earn your pay
Who for centuries long past for no more than your bread
Have bled for your countries and counted your dead

In the factories and mills, in the shipyards and mines
We've often been told to keep up with the times
For our skills are not needed, they've streamlined the job
And with sliderule and stopwatch our pride they have robbed

[Chorus:]
We're the first ones to starve, we're the first ones to die
The first ones in line for that pie-in-the-sky
And we're always the last when the cream is shared out
For the worker is working when the fat cat's about

And when the sky darkens and the prospect is war
Who's given a gun and then pushed to the fore
And expected to die for the land of our birth
Though we've never owned one lousy handful of earth?

[Chorus x3]

All of these things the worker has done
From tilling the fields to carrying the gun
We've been yoked to the plough since time first began
And always expected to carry the can

One helluva' Week on Tap

Short work week, but I've been fighting a flu; I have to fly to Maui on Friday for a surgical consultation; and, to top it off at work, I've got three major projects due in three days in a row.

Odds that I'll be around this week? Almost nil.

But, maybe I can give you something to make your hearts (and groins) tingle with anticipation. From the incomparable PinUp Tumblr, I agree with him on this one "I have no idea who this is, but I wish she would sit beside me."

Stay weird until we meet again....

In the meanwhile, might I suggest Siouxsie Law or, for more of this, The Pinup Post?

Who knew?

Mystik Spiral knew, of course, that Tuesday could be this busy. Presenting the criminally forgotten "Daria", with her brother Trent's band, "Mystik Spiral".

I'm just sad that the track "Little Sister" doesn't have a video.

Does anybody know? Does anybody know why we're here? Excellent lyrics, and right up there with the lyrics to this lil' diddy, "Every Dog Has Its Day" (f. such lines as "you ate up all my kibble").

Well, Well, Well...Guess who's coming back?

This guy, that's who.

Who's happy to be coming back?

As you may remember, I was in the process of moving from my digs in Mid-America to the paradise of Hawaii. Been here and working now for about 4 months, and things have finally calmed down enough to post again on a semi-regular basis.
I don't expect the content to change: Same ole' lefty politics, gallows humor, issues in the law, odd news stories, things pissing me off RE: current affairs, libertine sexual themes, daily YouTubes of whatever strikes my fancy, as well as obligatory/gratuitous hot nerd/goth chicks (work that SEO, yo).

Until then (which shall be soon, I promise) enjoy a Slave Leia Convention! wh00t1!1!

The one in the bikini is totally checking me out...

Tuesday is worn out...

I've never really liked Adele per se, but there is something about her voice that is so unique you just can't stop listening.
And, yes, I am bone-tired.
Back to the grind for this one. Coming up today is some Japanese splatter gore and a very frightening sex toy. If I have time, I may throw in a nerd chick for ya.

Have to study this weekend...

It's been a pretty light blogging week, as I've been busting my ass here studying for the Hawaii Bar Exam (fortunately, once you've taken one, it seems to come back pretty quickly). And, I just signed my five year contract last night, and will zipping along pretty soon (after a couple of weeks out West to sight see).

I'll be back Monday, but, for now, enjoy some Wolves v. Bears in Yellowstone.

I miss my big, black wolfy puppy :(

Wenesday may be over its mid-career crisis

...or not. Perhaps ambivalence is really just a deep-seated sign of love. Sorta' like getting married: fear, trepidation, passion, excitement, surface resentment, etc. que sera sera

One of the very best cross-over metal/punk/hardcore bands of all-time (thanks Kanye!), is D.R.I. This track, "Suit and Tie Guy", is a classic. Also, if interested, check out old Fugazi, Black Flag, Cro-Mags, etc.

Lyrics go now:
Suit and tie guy
With his fashion phases
And his quarterly raises
Feels he's better than you and me

Suit and tie guy
Thinks he's real cute
In the bathroom for a toot
Until his nose starts to bleed

Suit and tie guy
I see he always hurries
I know he always worries
He's gonna die of a heart attack

Suit and tie guy
On his way to feeding
Or an important meeting
Just like a car on a track

Suit and tie guy
He travels between stations
With certain destinations
Never varying from that routine

Suit and tie guy
And he'll tell you in one word
That he is insured
And it's not as bad as it may seem

Choose wisely...

You chose...poorly. In some of our cases, three times! Thanks Granpa...Platitudes without avoidance is like handing a rubber fist to a virgin!

My grandfather, who I adored, always told me the three truisms (and, pardon the impending passive voice); to choose wisely the following:
1. A spouse
2. A house
3. A career

WTF?! Why is this on here? Because it's fucking funny. That's why.
And, I did allude to a rubber fist earlier...

Now, seriously, think about this (pardon the pun), sobering statistic...One out of every seven lawyers  (1/7th...14%) consumes at least six (6) drinks every day. Or, to put it mildly, that's called binge-drinking. And they do it every night.

Ignore me...just looking for my brief.

Think also, about this...roughly one in five (18% actually) of alcoholics kill themselves. Not negligently, not stupid shit; just outright suicide.

Now, let's play the numbers game: That's roughly 3 out of every 100 lawyers killing themselves in the bottle alone. And, the numbers don't lie...we kill ourselves at least twice as much as the average joe.

Any excuse I can get to be Winona's sub, I will totally take.
And, unrelatedly, if you have Google Search, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, make sure you put the filter on if you search for "big fun teen suicide" That shit just got me on some kind of watch list, I imagine.

I chose poorly.

I think all of this comes via a looping, winding road to complete and total job dissatisfaction. Law school sold me a false bill of goods. I dislike people intensely, but, I love ideas and verbal jousting and mental warfare, so I thought it'd be perfect. Ummmm. Not so much: Law school is a racket, the profession of law (noble though it may be) is certainly not for everyone...and that includes those of us who don't have the connections to be a big shit, the money to be a big player, or the family to be yet another superannuated supplicant upon the thrones of firmly-entrenched interests.
Ok. Need to stop now, before I just fucking quit it all together, surrender my licenses, and go be a chef.

Like this...only with more feeling.

Saturday has a long day (and night) in store...

Pronounced Lynryd Skynyrd live in 1976 with "Saturday Night Special"...sure it's about a handgun, but I have Christmas guests coming on Tuesday, and I really need to clean the crib. Happy Saturday, see you tomorrow.

This train is off its tracks

Whooot, all aboard the fail train

Life is utterly chaotic. My movers bailed on me yesterday; I've been getting monkey-dunked at work; My kiddo is coming to town in two weeks; I'm having a bitch of time getting her registered for summer camps; corporate's coming again...for three days this time; and, by all accounts, it's just been a shitty few days.

Real Life: The Video

Today, I fear, is one for reality to rudely intrude. However, I did come across a stellar find...Australia's "Real Life" in 1983 with one of the coolest songs to appear on commercial radio, "Send me an angel", so there's that at least.

C'mon, you gotta' admit for early-80s synth-pop, this is damned wicked track. Has some overtones of Bauhus and, to a lesser extent, Christian Death.

Some people have Mondays or Humpdays...

But I have Thursdays. My entire professional career has always been marked by exhaustion and apathy on Thursdays. This morning is no different.

Not about Mondays, but any excuse to look at and listen to Suzanna Hoff works for me.

Day Number Ten of Corparatti

Arrrgggghhhhh. DAY TEN!

How did this happen?

Nooooooo! How did I left myself run out of coffee? How?! There are some things that my kitchen always has: 2% chocolate milk, juice of some sort, Beck's Dark, crushed red peppers and coffee? WTF?

How could I let myself run out of coffee at 4:00 am in the middle of the week? Drastic measures must be taken...I'm going to eat an entire tin of Penguin Caffeinated Peppermints to carry me through 'til Crane opens (at an ungodly 6:00 a.m.).

Speaking of which, who the fuck let's a coffee shop open at 6 during the week? Type A's make the world go round, and Type A's get the fuck up and work, and do so well before 6:00 a.m. local time. Argh.
